IS COLON THERAPY EMBARRASSING?

While you rest in the privacy of the colon room, the therapist will gently insert a small tube into the rectum, the tubing carries the warm filtered water in and out any gently pressurized system - no mess, no fuss, no odor - in fact, a very relaxing experience for most people. A professional certified therapist monitors the temperature and pressure of the water. You are completely covered during the entire procedure, resting comfortably on the table.

HOW LONG DOES A SESSION LAST?

Approximately 25 to 45 minutes.

IS THE PROCEDURE PAINFUL?

Rarely. Sometimes during the procedure the muscles of the colon contract suddenly, expelling considerable fluid and waste into the rectum. The contraction may feel like cramping or gas with the pressure in the rectum. Most of the process is mild and gentle with a wonderfully light and empty feeling afterwards.

CAN ONE BECOME DEPENDENT ON IT?

No.

COULD THE COLON STOP FUNCTIONING ON ITS OWN?

Sometimes. A very sick colon will temporarily shut down. A colon that stops functioning will start again after a brief rest. Continued colon hydro-therapy tones the colon muscles so it doesn't perform sluggishly.

WILL ONE CLEANSING COMPLETELY EMPTY THE COLON?

Almost never. Some of us have ten or more pounds of impacted mucous and feces in our colon. This is hardened, rubbery material and substantial work must be done to remove it. One cleansing removes some, the second more. Your personal objectives will determine how many you wish to have. An initial series of between three to six treatments is recommended. Years of improper nutrition cannot possibly be reversed in a few treatments. More treatments may be required in cases of chronic constipation or the atonic (sluggish) colon condition.

CAN COLON THERAPY WASH AWAY ALL BACTERIA, EVEN THE GOOD?

The helpful bacteria can only live in an acidic environment whereas the harmful ones for either in an alkaline environment. Most people due to improper eating, lack of exercise, and poor elimination have an alkaline colon. So it's helpful to flush away the bacteria in an alkaline colon. The great benefit of the cleansing program is to change the environment from alkaline to acid. Adding acidophilus/bacillus supplementation to the diet can be beneficial.

WHAT ABOUT THE USE OF LAXATIVES?

Laxatives relieve constipation by interfering with the colon's ability to eliminate normally on its own. The chemicals contained in laxatives irritate and stimulate the colon to abnormally contract to expel the irritating substances. In addition, the oral route of administration is the least optimal method for evacuation of the colon because very important digestive processes occurring in the stomach and small intestine are interfered with. Most laxatives and purgatives precipitate dehydration in the individual. Standard enemas only cleanse the rectum and last portion of the colon missing most of the large intestine.

SHOULD I FAST DURING A CLEANSE?

Fasting can enhance the cleansing effect: First, to clear the intestines before starting a fast so toxins released during the fast can be eliminated rather than circulated back into the bloodstream. Second, because the intestine is empty (you are ingesting only liquids) a colon hydro-therapy session during fasting gives it even more of a wash.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR COLON HYDRO-THERAPY?

Fresh and raw (uncooked) food passes through the digestive tract faster than cooked food. Fresh foods will help soften materials trapped in the colon. Digestion and elimination are quicker, which prepares the colon for easier, faster and more thorough cleansing. Prepare for your colon hydro-therapy by following these guidelines:

Morning:

For two full days before a colonic, eat fresh and raw (uncooked) fruit in the morning up until one hour before lunch.

Afternoon and Evening:

Eat lots of salad with small amounts of dressing in the afternoons and evenings.

Beverages:

Drink lots of purified water and apple juice. Apple juice supports the liver in releasing toxins during colon hydro-therapy. Both water and apple juice hydrate your system. If the system is not hydrated, the body tries to meet its need for water by absorption through the colon walls. This can slow up the rate of releasing during colon hydro-therapy.

Foods to Avoid:

Don't eat bananas, white potatoes, tomatoes or unsprouted nuts or seeds. These can cause colon shutdown in many people. Don't eat cauliflower, broccoli, daikon, jicama, onions, garlic, cabbage, beets or brussel sprouts. These can result in gas build up, blocking good colon release.

If You Cannot Tolerate Raw Foods:

If fresh and raw foods are insupportable for you, eat baked sweet potatoes, yams or garnets with brown rice for supper with a fresh green salad. The orange of the sweet potato supports the liver for good action during colon hydro-therapy and the brown rice absorbs toxins.

Night Before:

Eat half of a ripe, fresh pineapple the night before your hydro-therapy. Do not substitute canned pineapple as it lacks necessary live enzymes.

The Day of Your Treatment:

Don't eat or drink for three to four hours before a colonic. A full bladder can inhibit colon action. Fruit in the morning before a colonic is all right - allow a four-hour interval before your appointment. Before a late afternoon appointment a salad for lunch is fine, but allow a four-hour interval before your appointment. Don't eat cooked food for lunch before a colonic.

REBUILDING AFTER COLON HYDRO-THERAPY?

Following the initial program it is advisable to have a series of three colon hydro-therapy treatments four times a year (or as the seasons change) to maintain optimal colon health. The client is urged to come in between maintenance sessions if necessary.

After cleansing, a rebuilding diet is essential to properly restore healthy tissues and energy. All of the beneficial results of colon hydro-therapy can be canceled unless a health-building diet is followed. The basic food guidelines are:

Good rule of thumb: If you can't pronounce or understand the ingredients - DON"T EAT IT!
